sign upIn many countries, pharmacists are the first point of contact for women seeking medical abortion pills. However, with growing numbers of women choosing to self-administer a medical abortion outside of a medical setting, it’s vital that pharmacy workers are equipped with the knowledge and resources required to provide the guidance needed for women to safely self-administer.
Research indicates that expanding the role that pharmacists play in abortion care is key to ensuring safe abortion and post-abortion care is safe and accessible to women. However, we also know that not all pharmacist feel equipped to deliver advice and studies have found that the standard of advice given varies hugely, both depending on provider and who the pharmacy worker is serving.
To help better equip pharmacist to provide high-quality guidance and care to women seeking to self-administer with abortion medication, howtouseabortionpill.org have developed a Medical Abortion eLearning Course for Pharmacists:
The medical abortion (MA) online course draws from the World Health Organization’s most current standards and protocols and has been designed for pharmacists and pharmacy workers with the aim of providing knowledge that shapes their practice and ensures that they are competent in providing medical abortion pills for safe termination of pregnancies.
The short, six module lessons are available in 5 languages and provide pharmacists with the information they need to safely screen women for eligibility, dispense medications, instruct clients and answer client questions. The courses are available free of charge with no membership or registration required.
